Example XML SIP Trunk Configuration


One of the ITSP's that we're using is BroadVox. I'm looking for an example XML SIP Trunk Configuration config to try and install the provider onto our SBC server. Can someone point me to the right document, perhaps related to this ITSP, unless they are all similar.

By the way, on a related question. Would it be better to use a separate SBC for the SIP trunks? I mean, for performance, flexibility, etc, reasons, rather than having phones registering to the same server as the ITSPs are on.

This way, I could fully block all traffic other than to/from the ITSP, in a way, turning the vyatta/opensbc server into a stand alone SIP trunk gateway.

Yes, one SBC per SIP trunk is a good idea. It's easier to manage that way.

You can find one in the OpenSBC source folder. Its named sip-trunk.conf.xml

Quick question on this... since the server is only going to act as a gateway for one, perhaps a few SIP trunk providers, what do you feel it would need for hardware requirements? I have as little as 850Mhz.512MB blades all the way to modern multi-core CPU's.

It really depends on the behavior of the traffic. If the CPS requirement is high, call center dialers for example, you definitely would need dual core CPU + at least 2 MB ram. I would say, 1 SBC per E1/T1 trunk would be ok for a 800 Mhz blade box.

Should not be anything too resource crazy, at most, a full SIP PRI perhaps but for the most part, 2 to 10 trunks.

I'm now getting to the ITSP setup and am looking at your reply. If my old 850Mhz/512MB blades would do the job fine, might I be able to use say a dual duo 2.4Ghz/4GB server to run 2 or three instances to my different ITSP providers or would I still be facing the usual timing problems which VM use crops up? I'd love to use ESX on a more powerful blade if I could, there are so many benefits to using VM's.
